Chudi Ikpeazu - OWT athlete and Olympic hopeful

My VIsion

I want to change how people look at throwing. Particularly on the path of the implement (disc, shot, or hammer) and using that information to guide you to your individual style not through cookie cutter positions. Throwing is a complex sport but it doesn’t need to be. All you need to do is actively throw the hammer, disc, or shot at the right times and set yourself up to do so. I look forward to guiding you in this journey as I have many others.

About me

  • I’m a thrower just like you. I am a former Division 1 athlete who competed at the University of Maine in hammer, discus, shot put, and weight throw. I finished my career as the program record holder in the hammer throw, ranking 3rd all-time in discus and 5th all-time in weight throw. I earned All-New England honors outdoors four times and received All-America East recognition three times. Currently, I am training exclusively in the hammer throw with hopes of competing at the Olympic trials and much more.

  • I have been doing virtual and in person coaching for the last 5 years in the discus and hammer primarily. Over that span of time I have coached All-Americans, U20 and Senior national finalists, Gatorade athlete of the year, the Australian runner up in the Men’s Discus throw, and some of the top rising talent in US discus today.

  • Throws coaching has unfortunately become overly focused on the positions of the throw, particularly in the US. You should throw the implement, not your body. By understanding the path the implement takes around you, you'll recognize when to apply force. According to available bio mechanical research, this understanding is the primary distinction between good and elite throwers. With these ideas i can help you bridge that gap

  • On top of my athletic and coaching experience, I am also a certified athletic trainer in the NCAA setting. As a licensed healthcare provider, my understanding of the body and its recovery timelines is an experience rarely matched by most, if any, coaches. As an athlete, you will encounter bumps on the road to success, and this related professional experience will help you manage these challenges.
